C# (pronounced as C sharp) is a programming language developed by Microsoft with it’s first appearance in 2000. It’s most recent stable release is C# 7.0, which was released in March 2017.
C# development makes programming simpler by using the Extensible Markup Language (XML) and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP). These two allow access to a programming object or method without having to write too much additional code. Many times, codes which need to be used repeatedly only have to be written once. Because of this, C# development can go relatively fast.
And if you are wondering what C# can be used for: the short answer is that it can be used for almost anything. Obviously due to the Windows support, it should be used as the language of choice for making Windows desktop and mobile applications.
And when it comes to mobile apps, C# development is getting more popular altogether, in part thanks for Xamarin adopting this coding language. This way, hybrid apps (which can also be used in Android and iOS) can be created with the use of C#.
And there is even more to it, as C# is the programming language being used in the Unity 3D framework which is used to create games.
Sometimes there is a discussion when to use C# and when to use PHP. The answers depends on the type of project you want to create. PHP is pretty much solely used as a web development framework, while C# can do more. On the other hand, PHP is faster at it’s core and it is easier to set up and use for smaller projects. It is being said though that C# is the better language to use for large scale projects.
